Title: Water Resources Designer/Engineer 

Location: Whitby, Ontario

Job Function:  To design stormwater management facilities for land development projects, municipal reconstruction projects and to provide related reports. 

Department Function:  To provide professional engineering designs, drawings, reports, and specifications. 

Responsibilities: 

  1. Responsible for the design of stormwater management facilities for site plan and subdivision projects from review of preliminary concepts through detailed design and construction, in accordance with Project Managers’ specifications and established work-hour budgets.
  2. Provides input regarding design and drafting budgets for proposal preparation. 
  3. Completes the modelling and calculations required to prepare reports and design briefs for each project. Makes revisions as instructed by the Project Manager and/or regulatory and municipal officials. 
  4. Assembles, assesses, and incorporates municipal design standards and related reference materials in preparing designs.   
  5. Directs assigned drafting staff in the production of drawings by providing conceptual sketches of designs and information on design elements. Reviews and approves produced drawings prior to formal presentation. 
  6. Submits designs and reports to regulatory and municipal approval officials, when directed.  Develops and maintains relationships with approval officials. Liaises with sub-consultants and internal groups.
  7. Reports to Project Managers on project progress and costs. 
  8. Keeps project design records and files. 
  9. Performs related duties and tasks as assigned or required. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  1. Post-secondary education in civil engineering or engineering technology. 
  2. Minimum five (5) years experience in design of stormwater management facilities for subdivisions and site plans, as well as a general understanding of servicing and grading designs.   
  3. May have a Professional Engineers license or C.E.T. designation.
  4. Strong organizational, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills. 
  5. Works well individually and with others in a team environment.
  6. Experience utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D as well as stormwater management modelling software such as Visual OTTHYMO, HEC-RAS and PCSWMM.
